Features:
Firebrick
The firebrick included is designed specifically for high temperature operation. All chamber sidewalls are 4-1/2" thick while the floor and lid are 3" thick. These thicknesses are substantially greater than "standard" construction and offer increased efficiency for the anticipated, extended firing times.
Easily Replaceable Bottom Section
Crucibles can and do crack. The lower portion of the Crucible Furnace is designed to be easily removed for replacement and/or repair. This non-elemented lower section simply detaches from the main chamber.
Offset, Side Mounted Control
Our offset, side mounted control panel clears the front of the furnace of any obstructions. You’ll be working with this furnace and the last thing you’ll need to worry about is dancing around the electronics. This placement has the added benefit of keeping the controls away from the molten glass as it’s pulled from the crucible.
Lid Chain and Prop
For normal operation the lid is held open with a chain. This makes for easy single person, single hand operation. For those wishing to use a "prop rod" we have include this feature as well. The prop rod is notched to allow for both full open and partially open positions. The prop rod can be removed if desired.
RampMaster II with Swing View Feature
The Crucible Furnace is equipped with our RampMaster II control. The RampMaster II allows for precise control of all temperatures and soak times. The RampMaster II is also enclosed in our exclusive Swing View adjustable mount. The Swing View allows you to set the viewing and programming angle of the control. Sometimes the traditional, vertical placement of the control just doesn’t do it. With the Swing View you set the viewing angle you desire. You’re really going to love this feature.
Component Selection
Crucible work demands much of the furnace and much of its individual components. Included is Evenheat’s protected Type S thermocouple (temperature sensor) for increased high temperature precision and life. The heating elements are made from 12 gauge wire which increases their ability to comfortably carry the load. Mercury contacts are used for element control, which run silently and with a greater life expectancy than standard "hard contact" designs. With the extended soaking times of crucible work relay life is of the utmost importance.
Massive and Stout Lid Handle
The lid handle on the Crucible Furnace was designed to protrude from the lid with some distance and to be wide enough to allow for easy gloved hand operation. You won’t struggle to get your hand around this handle.
Chamber Baffle
To help keep the heat in the firing chamber as the lid is opened we have provided a "baffle". Your crucible will protrude through this baffle offering you access to your glass while helping to reduce temperature loss. You’ll note our baffle design uses cutouts that allow for placement and removal. You do have to handle this thing and these cutouts make the job that much easier. The baffle is supplied without any holes cut for your crucible. To access your crucible you will need to cut a hole in the baffle. The fiberboard cuts easily with simple tools.
Control Options
The Crucible Furnace is equipped with the RampMaster II with Swing View mount.
Firing Chamber Dimensions and Options:
Firing chamber dimensions from floor to bottom of baffle when installed are 15" (38.1cm) deep x 13.25" (33.7cm) diameter. Height of chamber without the baffle installed is 17.5" (44.5cm) (it’s not recommended to operate without baffle in place).
Voltage and Amperage Considerations:
The Crucible Furnace is designed to operate from 240V, single phase and will consume 17.6A (4224W total)
Power Receptacle Configuration NEMA 6-30R.
Suitability:
The Crucible Furnace is designed exclusively for glass crucible work up to 2350°F (1287°C) .
While not specifically designed with ceramic applications in mind the Crucible Furnace would certainly be capable of ceramic firing.
Recommended Kiln Furniture:
See your glass supplier for various options on crucible support and height adjustment. The variety of crucible sizes, placement and user requirements make defining one particular set-up next to impossible.
